What is a short haul move? This is a move that is less than 450 miles. Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves.
What is a local move? This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state.
What is an intrastate move? This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state.
Do I need to provide lunch for my movers? Your moving professionals will need to eat at some point during the day. You don’t need to provide lunch, although doing so will reduce the time they require to drive to and from a local restaurant which will save you money.
What is double-drive time? In California, all movers are required to charge double-drive time. They don’t charge you for the time required to get to your destination and then back to their moving branch. Instead, they charge double the time for the actual move.
How can I lower the cost of my move? Try to book your move Monday through Thursday because weekends are usually busier and more expensive. You may also be able to save money by moving in the middle of the month or avoiding the busy summer months.
Can my movers transport my barbeque? Yes, but they can’t transport any propane tanks. You must remove any tanks attached to the barbeque grill before the day of your move.
What is an inventory? This is a detailed descriptive list of your household goods that is prepared on the day of your actual move. All items are numbered and accompanied by a brief description of their condition on the inventory sheet.
Do I need to make special preparations for an international move? Yes, make sure to inquire about necessary import fees, custom duties and required documents for international moves.
Should I store items that won’t fit in my new home? You can choose to store items that won’t fit. However, if you have items that are old or have little value, you may be better to sell or donate them instead of paying the high cost of storing them for a long period.
